An inflatable rubber bladder is a custom-engineered elastomer chamber that expands under air or fluid pressure to apply force, hold position, or press material against a form. Where an inflatable seal creates a barrier, a bladder does mechanical work — applying uniform pressure inside a composite layup, clamping a workpiece, actuating a mechanism, or stopping product on a line.
Because a bladder distributes force evenly across its entire contact surface, it can press, grip, or lift delicate and irregular shapes that rigid tooling would damage — and it retracts completely when deflated.
